CAPE Roundtable Luncheon Dates Fall and Spring 2007/2008

Retired faculty and guests will meet on the LAST Wednesday of the month at the Ramada Inn on Triphammer Rd. at 12:30 for lunch. Dates for fall 2007 are September 26, October 31, November 28, December 19.

Roundtable luncheons for Spring 2008 will be January 30, February 27, March 26, April 30, May 28, June 25, July 30, August 28.

 

Lecture Series - Spring 2008

CAPE's lectures are free and open to the public. Unless otherwise noted, lectures are held in the Boyce Thompson Institute Auditorium. For information and updates – you may telephone Tori Wishart in the CAPE office (255-6608).

Thursday, April 10, 10:30 AM - Joel Silbey, The President White Profesor of History, Emeritus

Decoding the Confused, Cantankerous, American Political Nation: Or, Who is Going to Win in 2008. Professor Silbey will discuss the current situation in American politics as we approach an election that is already full of surprises and set in an ocean of discontent and anger in many quarters. He will draw on both the lessons of history - if any - and the way things seem to be shaping up.

Wednesday, May 14, 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM Gathering (Boyce Thompson Institute Atrium) 2:00 PM Membership Meeting (Auditorium) Christopher B. Barrett, International Professor, Department of Applied Economics and Management

Stimulating Agricultural and Rural Transformation in Sub-Saharan Africa. Professor Barrett will discuss the necessity and prospects for igniting agricultural productivity improvements and rural transformation in Sub-Saharan Africa today, considering both food systems and the non-farm rural economy. This will focus primarily on Cote d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya and Madasgascar, in particular, but will speak to regional isues more generally.
